BCCI plans to start the women’s IPL with five teams in March 2023.
The proposed plan includes a total of 22 matches with up to 5 foreign players in each XI.
WIPL begins the first week of March and lasts four weeks in the first year. The T20 World Cup South Africa will be held from February 9-26, with his WIPL coming soon after.
The plan proposed by BCCI calls for a total of 22 matches, with each team consisting of 18 players and a maximum of 6 international players. He can have up to 5 foreign players in an active XI, of which he has 4 from full member countries and 1 from a relevant country.
According to the plan sent by the BCCI to the National Association on Thursday and obtained by ESPN cricinfo, each team will face the other team twice during the league phase (20 games), with the league leaders advancing directly to the finals. Finalists will be determined by an eliminator between the 2nd and 3rd place teams in the league stage. BCCI has not yet finalized the WIPL schedule, but it is expected to be completed before the men’s IPL scheduled for late March.
Where will the teams be from?
Unlike WIPL’s predecessor, the Women’s T20 Challenge, where teams were randomly selected, BCCI will sell five franchises. However, unlike the men’s IPL, where franchises bid for teams in specific cities, BCCI has two plans for his WIPL. The first consists of sales teams in six zones spread across the country.
Dharamsala/Jammu (North Zone), Pune/Rajkot (West), Indore/Nagpur/Raipur (Central), Ranch/Kuttak (East), Kochi/Vishakapatnam (South), Guwahati (North East).
The second plan sees the sale of a team without a home base, with matches played in the IPL’s six finalists Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai.

Bids for Teams BCCI will begin the process of selling the five teams by inviting bids from private investors. In addition to his existing IPL holders, other private investors are also interested and how to do so is still under consideration.
“Details on how the franchise bid will work will be announced soon,” another source said.
The Indian board also plans to sell the media rights to the property separately, he added.
“Like the IPL, it will be difficult to play the WIPL in a home-away format because it is impossible to have five or six teams playing every day. It is proposed to organize the tournament in a caravan style with the next 10 matches at the venue.
BCCI Chairman Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah previously confirmed in separate interviews with PTI that 2023 is the start year of the WIPL.
“We are pleased with the type of response we have received from our stakeholders. Several existing IPL teams have made inquiries and expressed serious interest in owning a WIPL franchise.
“I believe next year, i.H. 2023, will be a very good time to launch a full-fledged women’s IPL that will be as big and successful as the men’s IPL.
Teams such as Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings are all known to be interested in buying the team. Even UTV big boss Ronnie Screwvala tweeted that he was interested in buying the WIPL franchise.
